I asked my 4 year old daughter what she wanted to be for Halloween. She informed me that she wanted to be Batman again this year. She was that last year, so we already have the costume (which is a little small, but I can make it work for her), so easy. Since my 2 year old always like to be like her older sister, I figured she would want to be a super hero too. So my thought at the time was, they would look so cute as Batman and Robin! Great idea, right?!

Then I started looking for costumes for her online. I knew Halloween costumes weren’t cheap, but do I REALLY want to spend that money on a costume she will wear for one night?! So I decided I was going to make my own Robin outfit. We already had the green leggings and I am sure I could find an old red shirt, a cape, and masks somewhere. Luckily, we had a hand me down old red shirt from a cousin and capes in our dress up closet.
So I go researching online for ideas on how to make this red shirt look like Robin. I decided I was going to use electrical tape on the shirt. It would be easy to peel off after we used it. I found this great deal on Amazon for electrical tape that came in a 3 pack of Yellow, Black, and White for only around $5. Perfect! I only really needed the yellow and black, but $5! Of course I am buying it. I was super excited!

It came in the mail and it was perfect. I got started on working on the shirt for her and learned a few lessons along the way on how to make circles with strips. 🙂 Easy you say, right?! Well… I may have done it the hard way the first time. Instead of putting 5 strips together all at once and just cutting a circle, I decided to put each individual strip down and cut each strip to make a circle. Yes, there were a few frustrations doing it that way, but I got the job done.
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. This was a new adventure for me. I am not a crafty person usually. I like to come up with creative ideas (when I have time to think) and TRY to accomplish them, but as a Mom of 3 execution isn’t always easy. So I am just impressed that I finished this and it actually turned out good. Plus, I finished well before Halloween and not the night before. That is an even bigger accomplishment! My husband was even impressed by it all!
So if you are working on a costume for your kid, don’t give up! You got this and you can do it!
